Mirror Dinghy

The Mirror Dinghy class marks a significant event in sailing history, i.e. the availability of a family sailing dinghy in a ‘flat-pack’ design that anyone with DIY skills could build, at an affordable price.

As well as sailing quite well (with its classic red sails), it could be rowed effectively and would take a small outboard motor, e.g. for fishing, and was easy to transport.

It was designed by Jack Holt and sponsored by the Daily Mirror newspaper. Over 100,000 have been built with later designs having aluminium masts and GRP hulls.

Our craft is number 61776 and is still seaworthy (more or less!).

It’s often used to introduce children to the joys of boating; holiday-makers driving to Wales could be seen trailing their Mirrors (packed to the gunwales with bags & boxes – and even their pets!).
